Innovating is always possible

Located in Northwest Paraná, with 7 active production units and around 8,000 employees, Group Santa Terezinha has been a solid reference company for the communities in the region in which it operates for 58 years. The Group has implemented actions for evolution year after year in order to leverage its production.

In this scenario, the Transforma Project was launched in 2019, which is based on four main pillars. They are Safety, Performance, Cost and Quality. The Project was developed at the time of the company's restructuring and structured so that all teams were engaged in the search for results.

In addition to the constant search for improving operational performance, the entire production model was built, in which Safety has become a fundamental part of guaranteeing the health and well-being of employees. With this model, the teams evolved, making Excellence in Agricultural Management the essential way to deliver good sugarcane fields.

Performa Project, further reinforcing the search for excellence in agricultural management and the reduction of production costs. The quest to consolidate teams and increase sugarcane productivity are always constant at Grupo Santa Terezinha, valuing people who know the importance of the perpetuity of the Group, which always promotes the growth of local communities.

Importance of Organic Management

Aiming at this increase in production, and seeking better business sustainability, the Group began to introduce and expand various agronomic practices, focused on organomineral management to bring more life to our soils. Among the main strategies adopted are the Application of Organic Compost in Depth and the use of Vinasse in the Localized Application modality.

These two practices have been strengthened each year in all our Units, resulting in significant productivity gains. With the implementation of the Application of Organic Compost in Depth, foreseen for application in 85% of the Planting areas in 2023, we guarantee the improvement of the condition of the soil, of the germination indexes, of the soil microbiota, in addition to reducing the risk of planting under water stress condition.

In managing the In-Depth Application of Organic Compost, we have leveraged the use of filter cake (industrial by-product) and enriched it with a poultry by-product (chicken litter), which guarantees a good part of the nutritional elements necessary for sugarcane of sugar in its initial phase.

Management with Localized Vinhaça was introduced in the Group in the 2021, 2022 harvest with application in 75 thousand hectares, followed by 100 thousand hectares in the 2022, 2023 Harvest, and, for the 2023, 2024 harvest, there was a surprising increase, 128 thousand hectares of cane stumps.

This large-scale management includes the use of vinasse produced with the enrichment of some mineral fertilizers, which is used as a source of nutrients for sugarcane cultivation. This process has ensured compliance with the nutritional supply, in addition to providing water with a significant amount of organic matter, complementing the work of rebuilding the soil microbiota.

Varietal Management and other Technologies:
Among the productivity levers we develop, the production of Pre- Sprouted Seedlings is considered one of the most important. We have believed in this and since 2019 we have been operating a Seedling Production Unit that has been producing quality seedlings for planting and accelerating new promising varieties for the region.

Biofábrica started its production in 2019 developing 1 millimeter of annual seedlings, currently produces approximately 12 millimeters per year in its plant. Within the whole process, we are very concerned with guaranteeing the production of seedlings with origin. Today we have a specific farm for our breeder, where all the varieties to supply the Biofactory come from.

The Production Unit, in addition to guaranteeing the quality of the seedlings, is an excellent tool for introducing new varieties, enabling the acceleration of the multiplication of new materials and their delivery to all our production units quickly and efficiently.

After production, the seedlings are destined for the planned Planting areas, which are planted in a specific structure of seedling Pre- Sprouted planters; planting is carried out throughout the year, with all the necessary care and quality in order to ensure that the seedling takes root well in the field. All this structure guarantees the excellence, quality and health of the seedlings for the subsequent multiplication of these nurseries in a successful commercial way.

In addition, Group Santa Terezinha has been innovating and increasingly seeking speed and quality in its handling. Therefore, in 2021 we opened our Foliar Fertilizer plant (UST Fert) capable of meeting 100% of our domestic demand and also selling to other companies. the UST fert it is composed of 9 nutritional elements, in addition to an organic source rich in amino acids.

In 2023 we will open our UST plant Bio, which is responsible for the production of fungi and bacteria for the biological control of sugarcane pests. We have also had a Cotesia production laboratory for years. flavipes, responsible for controlling the sugarcane borer. Another management tool that has grown is crop rotation.

For the 2023 and 2024 harvest, around 70% of our sugarcane planting will be in rotation, with soybeans, crotalaria and peanuts being the most relevant crops. At Power plant Santa Terezinha, innovating is necessary, growing environmentally and socially sustainable is essential and always with Safety, Performance , Cost and Quality.
